White
by James Ijames
Gus, a queer white painter who has found success in the art world, is outraged when his paintings are rejected from a major gallery showing--"too much chicken sausage over at the museum." So he hires Vanessa, a talented Black actress, to play Balkonae Townsend, the fictional "artist" behind his pieces. But when Balkonae takes center stage, Gus begins to wonder if he's really in control of the narrative. White explores the space between art and artist and asks the question, why do people in positions of privilege try so hard to seem oppressed?
